Factory checks form the operating baseline
First-party inspection is performed by or for the supplier as part of its own control. Examine the checklist, staff competence, measuring equipment and records rather than assuming that every internal check is weak. The buyer still needs to decide which evidence is sufficient for the order and where independent verification adds value.
Buyer and independent checks have distinct responsibilities
Second-party checks are performed by the buyer or its representative. Third-party work is provided by a separate inspection organisation. Review competence, impartiality arrangements, conflicts of interest, reporting and complaint handling for the chosen provider; the label alone does not guarantee a useful inspection.
Give every inspector the same decision brief
Confirm product references, defect rules, sample selection, required tests and report recipients. Define who can approve a deviation and who makes the shipment decision. Illustrative case: a factory self-check and an independent report disagree; reconcile lot identity, sample access and criteria before comparing their pass/fail labels.
